Drywall Repair

Drywall Repair in Toronto & the GTA

A paint job is only as good as the surface underneath it. Holes, cracks, dents, water stains, and failing tape joints all show through new paint — sometimes worse than before. Proper drywall repair before painting means the final result is smooth, clean, and professional. We don't paint over problems.

Cornerstone Pro Painting handles drywall repair as a standalone service and as part of every painting project. We patch holes of all sizes, repair cracked or peeling tape, address water-damaged sections, and skim coat uneven surfaces where needed. All repairs are sanded smooth and primed before any topcoat is applied.

Our Process

01
Damage Assessment

We inspect all surfaces to identify areas that need repair — holes, cracks, water damage, tape failure, nail pops, or surface unevenness.

02
Patching & Compound

Holes are patched with drywall compound and mesh tape. Larger holes may require a backer board and new drywall. Multiple compound coats are applied to achieve a flush finish.

03
Sanding & Feathering

Each compound coat is sanded smooth and feathered into the surrounding wall. The goal is a surface that's invisible under paint.

04
Priming

All repaired areas are spot-primed or full-surface primed before painting. This seals the compound and prevents flashing — dull spots where repaired areas absorb paint differently.

Common Questions About
Drywall Repair

Can you repair large holes in drywall?

Yes. Large holes — from doorknobs, plumbing access, electrical work — require a drywall patch with a backer and multiple compound coats. We handle repairs of all sizes.

Do you repair water-damaged drywall?

Yes, but only after the source of the moisture has been fixed. We don't repair active leaks — once the leak is resolved, we assess the damage and repair accordingly.

What's the difference between patching and skim coating?

Patching addresses specific damaged areas. Skim coating applies a thin layer of compound over a large surface area to create a uniformly smooth finish — often used on textured walls being modernized, or surfaces with widespread damage.

Can you match existing wall texture after a repair?

Yes. If the surrounding wall has texture — orange peel, knockdown, or skip trowel — we match the texture on the repaired area before painting.

Do you paint after the repair?

Yes. Drywall repair and painting are typically done together. We prime all repairs and then paint the room as part of the same project.
