Basement Painting

Basement Painting in Toronto & the GTA

Basement painting requires a different set of product and application decisions than main-floor rooms. Concrete walls, low natural light, potential moisture, and exposed structural elements all factor into how we approach a basement project. Done right, a basement paint job transforms a dark, unfinished space into a clean, liveable room.

We handle basement painting for finished and semi-finished basements across Toronto and the GTA. Whether you're painting drywall in a completed basement rec room, applying masonry paint to concrete walls, or spraying exposed joists and subfloor above, we have the products and technique to get it done properly.

Our Process

01
Surface Assessment

We assess the basement's surface conditions — drywall vs. concrete, any moisture issues, and existing paint or primer. Products are selected based on what the surface actually needs.

02
Moisture Check & Priming

Basement walls, especially concrete, require specific primers. Any moisture or efflorescence is addressed before primer is applied.

03
Painting Walls, Ceilings & Trim

We paint in sequence — ceiling or exposed joists first, then walls, then trim and doors. Concrete and drywall may receive different products.

04
Floor Coating (if included)

Basement floor painting with epoxy or floor paint can be added to the scope. We'll assess the concrete condition and prep accordingly.

Common Questions About
Basement Painting

Can you paint concrete basement walls?

Yes. Concrete walls require masonry primer and a durable topcoat designed for concrete surfaces. We use DryLok or equivalent products where moisture resistance is a priority.

What colour should I paint a basement?

Light colours — warm whites, soft greys, off-whites — work well in basements with limited natural light. We can help you select a colour that makes the space feel larger and brighter.

Can you paint the basement ceiling joists and pipes?

Yes. Painting exposed joists, beams, and mechanical elements black or a dark colour is a popular industrial look that hides imperfections and adds character.

Do you paint basement floors?

Yes. Basement floor painting with epoxy or floor paint can be added to the project. Surface prep for floors is extensive — the concrete must be clean, dry, and properly etched.

How long does basement painting take?

A finished basement rec room typically takes two to three days. A larger unfinished basement with concrete walls and exposed ceiling elements may take longer.
